DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (WAFB) - Some sweet ladies dancing will surely brighten your day!
The Cajun Yayas of Denham Springs is a popular traveling senior line dancing group started out of the Parks and Recreation Center in Denham Springs in 2015. The women range in age from 54 to their late 80s. And in their crawfish themed outfits, they visit nursing homes and dance to zydeco music. The leader of the group says their mission is to spread the joy of music to people who can’t experience it on a daily basis.
“We found out just through the last four years dancing for the residents, there’s a synergy when you do good for others. Not only are the people that we’re dancing for, having a good time and getting blessed, the people, myself, and the group is getting blessed,” said Sani McGrew with Parks and Recreation in Denham Springs.
These ladies are a hot commodity. There’s list of nursing homes waiting to get a glimpse of the dancing Yayas. Anyone interested in joining the group can join the gym at the Parks and Recreation Department in Denham Springs.
