BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - LSU freshman sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has made her first career appearance on The Bowerman Watch List.
The Bowerman is track and field’s equivalent of The Heisman Trophy. The list features the 10 best men and women track athletes in the US.
Richardson was named to the post-conference edition of the list Wednesday, May 15. She finished the SEC meet last weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., with 22.5 total points, the most of any sprinter.
As the anchor in the women’s 4x100 meter relay, she helped the team score a season best 42.93, which was good enough to rank second in the NCAA. She then became the third freshman in LSU history to win the SEC 100 meters. She crossed the finish line with a time of 11.00, which was the third fastest time in the US this season. Richardson next won the 200 meters with a personal best of 22.57, also good enough for third in the nation.
She has won titles in seven of her eight individual races this season, including four in the 100 meters. She is now only the sixth woman in LSU history to be recognized by The Bowerman.
