BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Southeastern Conference highlighted the Community Service Team for baseball for the 2019 season. Catcher Brock Mathis was named the Community Service Team.
The conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
Sophomore Brock Mathis participated in LSU’s annual Halloween Boo-Zar, where student-athletes pass out candy to children in the Baton Rouge community. Mathis also took part in Thanksgiving with the Tigers, a program that allows students-athletes to deliver food to families in need around the community. The sophomore catcher also took part in the annual Alex Box Stadium Campout for children and their parents.
Mathis also worked closely with U-High, where he assisted in helping children with various educational activities. The volunteers working with the children are able to provide inspiration to the students through their interactions.
The Tigers will face Auburn at home in a three-game series starting Thursday, May 15.
