EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (WAFB) - Greenwell Springs Road was reopened to traffic Tuesday after heavy rain over the Mother’s Day weekend washed out the road.
Around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced all lanes are now open in both directions. They say the crossdrain that failed has been replaced and backfilled with stone. Asphalt surfacing will be applied at a later date to allow for any settlement of the stone backfill. DOTD says they will monitor and maintain the stone surfacing on a daily basis.
The road was previously closed Saturday, May 11 around 7 p.m. in both directions about a half a mile north of Hooper Road after the road failed due to high water in the area.
