BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The LSU softball team was selected as the No. 10 overall seed for the 2019 NCAA Softball Championships and will also be a host for the Baton Rouge Regional this weekend.

Monmouth, Texas Tech, and Louisiana Tech will be in Tiger Park starting May 17. The regional ends on May 19.

The Tigers, the No. 1 overall seed in the regional, will take on Monmouth at 4:30 p.m. in Tiger Park. Louisiana Tech will face Texas Tech at 2 p.m.

“We’re excited,” said head coach Beth Torina. “We always appreciate the favor of the committee letting us play at home at Tiger Park. We had a great year and I think this team is very deserving of the spot that they are in.”

LSU is coming into post season play with a 40-16 overall record. The Tigers finished the regular season in a three-way tie for second place in the SEC. They had a 14-10 record in the league and garnered seven All-SEC honors. This season, LSU had 14 wins over Top 25 RPI teams and 21 overall wins in the top 50.

Texas Tech is the No. 2 seed in the regional. The Red Raiders finished 39-14 on the year and fourth in the BIG 12 with an 8-10 record. No. 3 seed Louisiana Tech finished 44-14 on the year and is coming off of a C-USA Tournament Championship. Monmouth, the No. 4 seed in the regional, finishing 36-16 in the regular season. The Hawks are coming off the Metro Atlantic Conference tournament title this weekend.
