BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Monday at the Baton Rouge Press Club, State Treasurer John Schroder continued his push to get residents to claim some money owed to some of them.
He’s talking about unclaimed property. Schroder says his office has completed more than 175,000 returns in this fiscal year, but there’s still unclaimed money waiting for thousands more. Recently, one woman claimed more than $2 million she didn’t know she had.
“It happens a lot more than you think. It happens with stocks and bonds and this young lady, these were royalties from oil and gas and she did not know the dad had it. I don’t know how you lose $2.3 million, but you must have a lot,” Schroder said.
