Generators recalled as hurricane season looms; 9 reports of gas leaks confirmed
FIRMAN P03615 generators - U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - With hurricane season fast approaching and Gov. John Bel Edwards declaring a state of emergency Friday, May 19, many families will be pouring into stores hoping to find a reliable portable generator to keep their family safe.

The United States Consumer Protection Safety Commission says it’s important to avoid FIRMAN brand generators sold exclusively at Costco locations and Costco.com from January 2019 through March 2019. These generators are being pulled from shelves because their carbon canister can leak gas, posing a fire hazard.

So far there have been nine reports of gas leaks from the carbon canister. No injuries have been reported.

The recall involves FIRMAN generators which can be identified by the model number P03615 and date code 10/2018, 11/2018, or 12/2018 printed on the white nameplate on the generator’s fuel tank.

Serial numbers range from 4829200012 through 4833913602 and are printed on the white nameplate on the fuel tank.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled generators and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or take the recalled generator to a FIRMAN service center for a free inspection and repair.
