Woman, 1-year-old girl injured in New Orleans East shooting
The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a shooting in New Orleans East that has left two people injured.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans Police say a woman and a child were shot in New Orleans East overnight.

Police were called just after 1 a.m. after a 41-year-old woman and a 1-year-old girl arrived at a local hospital by private conveyance with gunshot wounds.

It was later learned that the shooting occurred in the 6500 block of Dwyer Road.

According to investigators, a family was inside of a home when they heard gunshots. Once the gunfire ended, it was discovered that the woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and the child suffered a gunshot wound to the foot.

“It kind of sends a chill through your spine like knowing that someone was shooting up a house, three houses down? That’s scary. For real that’s scary. That really makes you think." said one man.

“It’s just sad like I don’t really have no words because that could have been our child. That could have been anybody in this house, you know? They could have just came down and split the whole block,” said another resident.
