BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge is partnering with retail e-commerce giant eBay by bringing in more jobs and launching a retail revival program. The announcement was made Tuesday at Red Stick Social to much fanfare, with an event opener from Southern University’s Human Juke Box.
The company will bring in 40 full-time customer service positions through its eBay@Home program in late summer 2019. The program was operating in Akron, Ohio and Austin, Texas before the company moved toward the Red Stick city.
The other economic initiative involved eBay launching its Retail Revival program, which provides services to help local entrepreneurs establish their presence in the digital marketplace. As U.S. retailers announced the closure of thousands of stores, eBay hopes the program will encourage small business owners to “stay local, sell global.” The program aims to get sellers to contribute to their local economy by using eBays platform to globally sell their products.
Baton Rouge is the sixth city that’s part of the retail revival program.
