No. 9 LSU softball gets shutout by No. 4 Alabama in Game 1

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - No. 9 LSU kept the game tight against No. 4 Alabama until things fell apart in the final inning Friday at Tiger Park.

The Tigers fell 7-0 to the Crimson Tide.

Shelbi Sunseri started in the circle and suffered the loss. She gave up seven runs on nine hits, including a home run, in 6.2 innings of work. She walked four batters and didn’t strike out any. She drops to 12-6 on the season.

Alabama got on the board in the first inning on a solo home run to left field that slammed into the foul pole.

There were then five scoreless innings until disaster struck the Tigers in the top of the seventh.

A bases-loaded double plated two runs for the Tide to make it 3-0. Then, a single sent two more runs home for the 5-0 lead. A passed ball allowed another run. Then, a single to left field sent another runner home for the 7-0 lead.

The teams will battle again Saturday at 5 p.m.
