Smoke alarm wakes elderly man during Greensburg house fire
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - One person is injured after a fire destroyed an elderly couple’s house in Greensburg.
According to the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal, the North St. Helena Fire District #6 responded to a call in the 200 block of Pistol Womack Lane just after 2:45 p.m. on Monday, April 22.
The elderly man living at the house says he was woken up by a smoke alarm installed in 2018 as part of the State Fire Marshal’s Operation Save-A-Life partnership, in which they install smoke alarms for free.
The man was able to escape the fire, but was injured and is at an area hospital for treatment.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
