BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - After claiming victory in the first game, Southern dropped the second game of a doubleheader to Texas Southern Saturday night at Lee-Hines Field.

The Jaguars fell 6-5 to the Tigers. Southern committed three costly errors in the latter part of the game.

Justin Freeman started on the mound for the Jags. He gave up one run on one hit and struck out six batters in the five innings he pitched. Austin Haensel replaced him and allowed five runs on seven hits, but only two of those runs were earned. He struck out three.

After two scoreless innings, Southern scored three runs in the third inning, with two of those coming by way of a double to left field by Ashanti Wheatley. The Jags led 3-0.

In the top of the fourth, a solo home run put the Tigers on the board to make it 3-1. They put up two more runs in the top of the sixth, both on throwing errors, to tie it 3-3.

TSU took the lead in the seventh inning off another solo home run and extended it in the eighth with another run to go up 5-3.

The Jags roared back and tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. Willie Ward scored on a passed ball and Coby Taylor reached home on a throwing error to make it 5-5.

A single up the middle with a man on second, who had gotten there on a stolen base, gave the Tigers the game winning run.

The teams will face off at 1 p.m. Sunday in the rubber match.
