No. 9 LSU softball loses to No. 19 Arkansas in Game 1

FAYETTEVILLE, AR (WAFB) - No. 9 LSU fell to No. 19 Arkansas in the first game Thursday at Bogle Park in Fayetteville, AR.

The Tigers (36-10, 13-6 SEC) suffered an 8-5 loss to the Razorbacks (33-14, 7-9 SEC). This is the first time in six years that Arkansas has beaten LSU.

Shelby Wickersham started on the mound for the Tigers. She gave up five runs on six hits in 3.2 innings. She had no strikeouts and three walks. Ali Kilponen relieved her and suffered the loss. She allowed three runs on three hits and had one strikeout. She dropped to 5-3 on the season.

Arkansas started off with a three-run in the first inning to take the early lead.

LSU responded in the top of the second. Shemiah Sanchez hit a solo home run to right center field. Later, Michaela Schlattman scored on a wild pitch to cut the Razorback lead to 3-2.

LSU rallied to take the lead in the third inning. Aliyah Andrews scored on a single by Sanchez. Later, a single by Amanda Doyle plated Shelbi Sunseri. Then, a double to center field by Schlattman sent Sanchez home to put the Tigers up 5-3.

Arkansas then scored two runs in the fourth inning. A two-run home run in the fifth inning put the Razorbacks up 7-5. Then, in the sixth, a solo home run gave them the 8-5 lead.

The second game of the series is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
