BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Knock Knock Children’s Museum announced the hiring of Peter Claffey as the museum’s new Executive Director. The announcement comes after an exhaustive national search after the former director, Peter Olson down in September 2018 to pursue a career in children’s museum planning, according to Greater Baton Rouge Business Report.
Genny Nadler Thomas has since been the museum’s acting executive director.
“We were very deliberative with our search, and it has paid off for Knock Knock and the community as a whole,” said Jon LeBlanc Board Chair for Knock Knock Children’s Museum. “We were looking for a candidate that not only had knowledge of children’s museums but had a passion for elevating Knock Knock to a world-class destination. We found that perfect combination with Peter.”
Originally from Connecticut, Claffey has served several director positions at children’s and science museums. He served as the Executive Director of Sci-Tech Discovery Center in Frisco, Texas for the last four and a half years. At that museum he oversaw the implementation exhibits and programs, created outreach initiatives and expanded Sci-Tech’s community partnerships.
Claffey would oversee the directors and roughly 50 full- and part-time employees.
“When I learned about the opportunity to lead one of the most impressive new children’s museums in the nation, I simply couldn’t pass it up,” said Claffey. "My time at Sci-Tech has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. But my family and I are excited for the new adventures that await us in Baton Rouge and at Knock Knock. I am looking forward to hitting the ground running and taking this already exceptional museum to new heights.”
Claffey’s first official day at Knock Knock will be Monday, May 6, 2019.
