BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Southern University is saddened to announce the death of longtime administrator, Dr. Dana Carpenter.
Carpenter, the husband of Representative Dr. Barbara West Carpenter, died Friday, April 12 after a brief illness, the school says. Dr. Carpenter served on the City of Baker school board since its inception in November of 2018.
Carpenter graduated from Grambling State University and received graduate degrees from Northwestern State University as well as a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Kansas State University.
At SU, he served as dean of the University College and associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs.
He leaves behind his wife, a son and daughter, a daughter-in-law, and a large extended family of siblings, in-laws, and other relatives. His family has started the Dr. Dana Carpenter Scholarship for the City of Baker School System in his honor.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 20 at 11 a.m. at Mount Pilgrim Life Center on Scenic Highway. Condolences may be sent to Halls Davis Funeral Home, located at 9348 Scenic Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA 70807.
