LSU tourney play good for Baton Rouge economy

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Tiger mania is in full swing and with it comes a little boost for the Baton Rouge economy.

Restaurants and sports bars are seeing an increase of folks coming in to watch the games. Fans are finding a little extra time during their lunch breaks to go cheer on the Tigers. Brian Whitley, the general manager of Superior Grill Highland says it was quiet Friday, but he fully expects it to be packed for the game against Maryland on Saturday, Mar. 23.

"The buzz helps us out and days like this when the weather is so good, people are getting out and we hope that when they play tomorrow the weather is going to be as nice because people want to get out and then the first thing is like, ‘We’re coming to see the basketball game. Where’s a good spot for us to sit?’” Whitley said.

Whitley also says the restaurant has done well all season, thanks in part to LSU’s successful year. The bump in sales he has seen during post season play is just a little lagniappe which helps to pad the budget for the rest of the year.
