LSU pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis sets new NCAA record

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis has set a new collegiate record.

The freshman cleared 5.92 meters (19′ 5″) and claimed the gold in the event. In addition to the collegiate record, it is an SEC championship meet record, world lead for 2019, Swedish record, and a indoor personal best.

The previous record was 5.91 meters. It was set by Shawn Barber of Akron on March 13, 2015.

The LSU track and field squad had two other champions on day one of the SEC Indoor Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center.

JuVaughn Harrison (high jump) and Rayvon Grey (long jump) secured titles in their respective events.
