DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - While many celebrated Super Bowl LIII Sunday night, one community used the big game day to help out a family struck by tragedy.
“We just wanted to be able to help out and touch base with the community not only as a business but as a family,” said Treva Tucker.
Tucker works for Ruffin’s Daiquiri Lounge in Denham Springs. The lounge held a fundraiser to help with funeral expenses for Billy, Summer, and Tanner Ernest.
Tucker says she would babysit Summer and Tanner when the two were younger. She says she still remembers how happy they were as children.
“They were always running, and playing, and laughing. They were very happy children," said Tucker.
The community rallied together to show their support for the Ernest family, reminding them they are not alone during this difficult time.
“It caught us off guard and we didn’t expect anything like that to happen, so when it happened we just had to come together really and see what we could do to step over things like this,” said Javorian Warren, a DJ at the venue.
Warren, also known as DJ Salvage, says he did not know the victims personally but wanted to help. He and others joined forces hoping their small gesture has a lasting impact on a family in need.
”We know it’s the family members, but God has a way. Just trust in God. Keep your head up and tomorrow is always going to be a better day,” said Warren.
Money raised from the fundraiser will help with funeral services for the Ernest family. The funeral is set for February 9.
