Baton Rouge Green plants trees on new school campus

Volunteers with Baton Rouge Green plant trees on new school campus

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Green is taking advantage of prime tree planting weather and laying down some new roots at the new Foreign Language Academic Immersion Magnet School.

In honor of Louisiana Arbor Day, celebrated Jan. 18, the group, along with employees from Cox Communications, planted more than two dozen trees on the campus. The trees will serve several purposes for the community.

“Looking forward to this just to make this new campus feel like home and just to provide some additional benefits for the people that live in the neighborhood around the school, and so we’re hoping this will spark a little more interest in science and nature for the kids, and plus it will give them some shade because it’s really hot here during the summer," said Justin Lemoine, a landscape architect.

Baton Rouge Green has several other events planned in honor of Arbor Day, including a planting at the Baton Roots Community Farm at Howell Park on Saturday, Jan. 19.
