Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital, Canopy Installation Next Fall

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Beginning next fall, children and their families will experience an unusual, yet captivating entrance when they arrive at the Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital.

The installation, created by Boston artist, Christopher Janney, is called the Harmonic Grove. It’s an interactive canopy intended to create a creatively playful environment for children and their families.

When you enter the 4,000 square-foot canopy, you’ll see blue and green transparent glass that radiates colorful, yet peaceful shadows. The installation has 24 speakers built into the canopy.

Anyone who presses a hand to one of the inviting handprints located on the support columns will trigger a series of melodic instruments that will also affect the lighting. Called the Harmonic Grove, it is intended to create a soothing, but creatively playful environment and is another way children and families will experience a place designed and built from the ground up just for them.
