WALKER, LA (WAFB) - It wouldn’t be the holiday season without a shopping trip to the store. Twelve kids in Walker got to pick out their Christmas gifts with a little help from the Walker Police Department.
For the first time ever, they helped make the holiday for young people special, and it was all smiles Wednesday night at the Walker Walmart. The department says community members made it possible and it pays off in more ways than one.
“That’s our primary goal is to be able to give back to the community and to bridge any kind of gaps there may be between the officers and the community of Walker,” said Pfc. Scott Glenn with the Walker Police Department.
Police say area schools provided the names of children and they drew the names of the kids that got to participate. This year, each child got to spend about $120.
