BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A new fitness studio is making members sweat through bounce lessons set to hip-hop music, occasionally with a live dj bringing the beats.
Get Ready to Sweat fitness studio, which opened in July, might still be in it’s infancy stage, but the team already has a massive following from fitness fans in the Plaquemine area. The group had more than 2,000 votes in WAFB’s favorite fitness studio competition last month.
Get Ready to Sweat is located in Plaquemine on Meriam Street, around the corner from the courthouse and just down the street from the fire station.

Get Ready to Sweat offers fitness classes that focus on body enhancement, lowering blood pressure, cholesterol, and weight loss. Owner Anri Stewart says the classes also provide an uplifting environment filled with laughter, encouragement, and positive energy.
“Our workouts are routines that vary in many different styles of music with workout and dance moves incorporated,” said Stewart. “Our most popular styles of music used are jigg, bounce, hip-hop, and zydeco."
- Baton Rouge hip-hop style
- New Orleans hip-hop style
You don’t have to be an expert dancer to participate. In fact, the class participants range in ages, including kids who tag along with their moms to learn the dance routines.
Instructors demonstrate the creative choreography to the class, then asking them to join in with the music, similar to a cheer or dance camp. They then piece the moves together, 8-counts at a time, incorporating many moments of free-style and fun.
- Monday, Wednesday: 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. & 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Plaquemine
- Tuesday: 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at Fancy Feet Dance Studio in Pierre Part
- Saturday: 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in Plaquemine
Classes are pay as you go at a cost of $5 per class. They also have punch cards available for those that want to pay in advance. The punch cards do offer a bit of a discounted price.
Get Ready to Sweat also makes appearances at community events in surrounding cities.
