GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - A longtime Gonzales Police Chief has died.

Pete Bourque, who served as chief from 1960 to 1983, passed away Sunday night.

He was 84. Gonzales Mayor Barney Arceneaux, who served a chief after Bourque retired, says Bourque hired him as a police officer and was instrumental in helping his law enforcement career.

“Not only was he a boss but also like a brother I never ever had,” Arceneaux said. “He will be missed sorely by the law enforcement community as well as the citizens of Gonzales.”

Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 20 at Ourso Funeral Home of Gonzales from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Visitation will resume Friday, Dec. 21 at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow at Hope Haven Garden of Memories of Gonzales.
