Man indicted for killing woman trying to save her dog

BAKER, LA (WAFB) - A man accused of killing a woman who was trying to save her dog has been indicted for her death.

Baker Police Chief Carl Dunn said Rhykem Rogers, 28, shot at a dog on February 25.

Cherish Smith, 23, tried to save the animal by running in front of it.

Smith was shot in the stomach and later died at a local hospital that same day.

A grand jury indicted Rogers on December 5 on the charge of negligent homicide.
