What To Do During The Storm

During the Storm - When in a Watch Area

Listen to T.V., Radio or NOAA weather radio for offical storm information

Get a full tank of gas for all your vehicles

Inspect and secure mobile home tie downs

Prepare to cover all window and door openings with shutters or plywood

Check batteries and make sure your water and canned food supply is complete

Check to make sure you first aid kit is complete and you have extra prescription medicine

Prepare to bring loose outdoor items inside, ie: lawn furniture, garbage cans, garden tools, etc.

Make sure you have extra cash and or Travellers Checks

During the Storm - When in a Warning Area

Closely monitor radio, T.V. or NOAA weater radio for offical storm information

Complete preparation, such as putting up storm shutters and bringing in loose objects, etc.

Turn refrigerator to maximum cold and open only when necessary

Turn off utilities if told to do so by authorities

Turn off propane tanks

Unplug small appliances

Fill bathtub and large containers with water for sanitary purposes

Be alert for tornados which can be spawned by hurricanes

If evacuating, leave early, stay at a low rise inland hotel or at an offical hurricane shelter

Leave mobile homes

Notify a friend and or family member outside the warned area of your evacuation plans

Put food and water out for pets if you cannot take them with you
