Back to School: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What time does school start?
A: At the elementary level, students will start school at 8:30 a.m. and be released at 3:25p.m. For middle and high school students, school will start at 7:10 a.m. and end at 2:25 p.m. Arrival times for students and employees at each location have been shifted by ten minutes as well.

Q: How much will school lunches cost?
A: Currently, meals cost $1.00 at the elementary level, but will increase to $1.10 for the fall. At the middle/high school levels, the cost of lunch will rise from $1.15 to $1.25 for the 2002-2003 school year.

Q: My child is attending high school for the first time this year, will she be required to wear a uniform?
A: Two more Baton Rouge High Schools will require uniforms when school begins August 12th. Woodlawn High School and Valley Park Alternative High School are the latest schools to adopt uniform policies in East Baton Rouge Parish. Both Woodlawn and Valley Park students will wear kaki bottoms, but Woodlawn will require purple or white tops, while Valley Park will mandate maroon shirts. The rest of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System uniform policy will remain as follows: Elementary students wear white tops and navy bottoms. Middle school students wear navy tops and khaki bottoms.
