In 1900, two brothers named Kean grabbed opportunity by the collar. J. Selby Kean and Frank Kean saw the need for laundering shirt collars, in an era when fashion required detachable collars to be commonly worn by gentlemen, and ladies. Capitalizing on demand, the Kean brothers rolled up their sleeves, and opened their laundry on Third Street, downtown in Baton Rouge - conveniently located where demand was great, among turn of the century university students.
From the beginning, Kean's laundry focused on quality customer service, and pick-up and delivery of clothing helped build their success. Over the decades, starting with horse-drawn wagons, then motor cars, and even special electric cars during the fuel-rationed war years, the Kean family business strived to make convenience an important part of what their patrons could count on.
"Kean's has always been THE PLACE to bring your laundry in Baton Rouge," says current owner Rock Rockenbaugh. "Our customers are loyal because we give them personal attention."
Times have changed, and Kean's Fine Dry Cleaning has kept up. Baton Rouge has grown significantly since Kean's was founded, and the business has expanded and adapted to continue to provide the best in modern cleaning methods to suit the fashions and lifestyles of our local community. Inspired by the vision of the first Kean brothers, Kean's today remains dedicated to bringing quality service home to your neighborhood.
Locally owned and operated for more than a hundred years, we're building a brighter future for Louisiana at Kean's and WAFB.
