Black Friday Hits Baton Rouge

9NEWS is right in the middle of one of the biggest shopping days of the year. In Baton Rouge, many people got started very early Friday morning, and many more are still going strong. One of the hot spots is the Mall of Louisiana.

They came early and stayed late. The isles in the stores at the Mall at Cortana got crowded quickly. Welcome to "Black Friday." You learn quickly, the only way to do this is plan ahead. "See, I did my homework before, wrote the list down, came in here, went directly for what I wanted. In and out, zip-zip," says Keisha Harris.

All that zipping around can be very exhausting, which is why you need to refuel. There's nothing better than a quick sugar fix to keep you going. "You get up at 3:00 in the morning, you need a little bit of survival in the morning," says April Normand. She gets one cookie to go and it's back into the mix.

Everybody has a holiday sale going on with 20% off here, and 50% there. Some sales are apparently so good they make you stop cold and turn around. Speaking of cold, we saw people standing outside in a line at Toys R Us. Some of them don't even know why they're there. One man told us he was just there to sign the credit card statement.

When was the last time you saw a shopping cart at the mall? We saw only one all day. It was packed full, and they weren't done shopping. Welcome to the insanity that is "Black Friday." Check your bank account, make sure your shoes are on tight, shop with a buddy in case you pass out, and make sure you keep that sugar in your system. If not, find a bench.
