Data Adjustment of Average Temperatures

There is a good discussion of what the data adjustment for average temperatures over the last several years means. Can you clarify?

Another round of debate between the global-warming "Hatfields & McCoys!" Debating something like the average of a one-quarter degree temperature adjustment for the U.S. historical record?  Oh, boy ....

In my mind, the debate on the "quality" (and quantity) of historical data is MUCH more important than "which was warmer: 1934 or 1998?"

But, sadly, we may never get to that issue as earnest as we deal with the politics and "industry" of the global warming debate.
