New Orleans Pumps Fail during Recent Heavy Rains

It's the latest evidence New Orleans doesn't appear ready for another big storm. Power outages caused some pumps that are supposed to keep high water down to fail during last week's heavy rains.

Knee-deep water could be found near the Superdome Friday. 40% of the city's pump system lost power.

The head of the New Orleans Sewage and Water Board says aside from the pump problems, Friday's downpours were simply too heavy to manage.

City officials say they're working with Entergy and contractors to find better power solutions for the pumps.
