Tests Find Chemical Used to Make Plastics in Pet Food

Tests on recalled pet food reveal there were chemicals in the food that could hurt animals, but they didn't confirm it was rat poison.

At a news conference Friday, officials said it was melamine, a chemical used to make plastics and fertilizer.

The chemical was also found in wheat gluten used as an ingredient in the food.

Menu Foods recalled 60 million containers of its products when animals started dying from kidney failure after eating the pet food.
