Blanco Says She's Doing What She Believes is "Best for My State"

Louisianians are buzzing. Many are still in shock after the state's first female governor announced she's not going to run again.

She made her declaration at the governor's mansion Tuesday evening.

Governor Blanco says, "I am choosing to do what I believe is best for my state. I will focus my efforts for the next nine months on the people's work, not on politics. After much thought and prayer, I have decided that I will not seek re-election as your governor."

The governor says she wants move forward with her political agenda without the distractions of election-year politics.

She thinks lawmakers will be more focused on her unprecedented push to improve education if she's not up for re-election.
