Children's Cup

Our mission
Children's Cup's purpose is to take humanitarian aid into the hard places where war, natural disasters and disease epidemics have devastated societies. These children in hard places know horrors our children have never heard of. Food, shelter, medicine and education are not enough to heal their emotions. Most have been sexually abused, beaten and some have even been forced to murder and maim as child warriors. They need hope.

About the name
"Children's Cup" Once you have sobbed your way through a refugee camp where tiny hands reach up to you with an empty cup or bowl, you'll never forget their eyes and the word "cup" will forever be emotional to you.

About the Founder
Dave Ohlerking has served as missionary and humanitarian aid director since 1970. He founded Children's Cup International Relief in 1992. Ohlerking has directed projects in 53 countries including the building of 176 schools, equipping and operating 76 mobile clinics, and on-the-ground distribution of 65,000 tons of relief commodities.

Where do we do it?
Priority one is the "hard places" of the world. Current emphasis is Vietnam, Philippines & Zimbabwe.

Why do we do it?
The values America was founded upon call for us to reach out to the needy - even if they have been called our enemy.

What are the results?
Lives are saved and improved nutritionally, medically, and spiritually. Fathers and mothers are trained to provide a living for their families. The local economies and societies are strengthened. Cash "sink holes" become self-sustaining market centers. International relations are promoted. Americans know the fulfillment of making a difference. Helping there keeps the front line battles of disease and terrorism "there" instead of "here" in America.

What happens if we don't?
They die. Local economies and societies have no hope of coping. Festering political unrest and jealous hatred of America are exploited by terrorist recruiters. (Then our military sons and daughters are sent to "wage peace" and die there). Diseases like Ebola and the bubonic plague become jet-set invaders via America's airports (AIDS isn't the last or even the deadliest contagion we must defeat).
