A Toothache Rx

A toothache is a symptom of a deeper problem, and should never be ignored. While most problems are minor and can be easily treated in our office, a toothache may be an indication of a more serious issue, including a dental abscess, gum disease, a sinus or ear infection, or even heart disease.

It's always wise to make an appointment to come in and check out the severity of your problem. If you can't see us right away, try these toothache tips in the meantime:

  • Rinse your mouth out with warm salt water.
  • Floss teeth in order to dislodge any trapped food particles.
  • Take aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen to relive the pain, but do not place an aspirin directly on the affected area.
  • Use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek to help relieve any pain or swelling. Never use heat as heat incubates and promotes bacterial growth.
