Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge announces events for installation of new bishop

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge has announced all of the events for the installation of Bishop-designate Michael Gerard Duca.

Officials said there will be a meet-and-greet by invitation only with Ecumenical and community leaders Thursday at 6 p.m.

It will be followed by evening prayer, which is open to the public, at St. George Catholic Church at 7 p.m. There will be a reception at the St. George Catholic School gym at 8 p.m. This event is also open to the public.

Duca will be installed as the sixth bishop of Baton Rouge on Friday, Augst 24, at 2 p.m.

There will be a reception after the installation ceremony. It will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Catholic Life Center, which is also known as the Robert E. Tracy Center, at 1800 South Acadian Thruway.

The event is open to the public.

Duca is succeeding Bishop Robert Muench, who is retiring. Muench served as bishop of Baton Rouge for 16 years.
