BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Southern University football players were at A.W. Mumford for their first practice of camp in full pads Wednesday morning.
There is one particular player who onlookers could miss if they just watched the team stretch but they won't miss him making plays on the field.
Cameron Mackey is one of the three sophomore returners at wide receiver. He is joined by teammates Jamar Washington and Kendall Catalon.

The trio contributed consistently last season and there are hopes each can build upon his solid freshman year.
"It was a great experience," said Mackey. "Last year, it started off slow. Then, we had the three freshmen come in and they built up our confidence real much. And then, it gave us a lot of experience. So now, we're comfortable. We know all the plays and we just can play freely now."
"We call them the three musketeers," added head coach Dawson Odums. "Throw Kendall Catalon in there with them. So, unique skill set, fast twitch muscles, explosive, real quickness and we need that at the slot receiver. So, it's just great to see we have a lot of people at that position that can do that."
WAFB will show a special program on the Southern Jaguars titled "Gearing Up for Greatness." It will take a look at the team and all the storylines ahead of the 2018 season.
You can watch it Saturday, August 18.
