EBR Mosquito Abatement opens new facility

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge has a new mosquito abatement facility to help better protect the community from the pests, other rodents, and the diseases they could potentially transmit to residents.

Officials said the new building will provide the needs for East Baton Rouge Parish for the next 30 to 50 years.

"Rodents and mosquitoes know no boundaries and it's important in the day and age that we live in today that we make sure that we minimize a plethora of mosquitoes and rodents because of the health of the citizens of our community," said Mayor Sharon Weston Broome, who was in attendance at the ribbon cutting.

The new facility includes an aircraft hangar, maintenance shop, aviation personnel offices, and a parts storage facility, which is something the old facility lacked.
