LUTCHER, LA (WAFB) - Sportsline Summer Camp is headed down the home stretch with less than four weeks to go. Preview No. 41 is Dwain Jenkins and his Lutcher Bulldogs, which missed out on a trip to the Superdome in Class 4A last year, after winning back-to-back titles in 3A in 2015 and 2016.
The Bulldogs have 17 starters back from a season that started just 1-5 and ended 4-7, including plenty of young guys who grew up filling in for injured seniors.
The defense is led by safety Zane McCrary, linebacker Seth Leblanc, and four-year starter Josh Taylor, where all but one guy started at least one game.
Quarterback Kolby Bourgeios and Rondell Mealey are in the offensive backfield, serving as two more seniors who figure to make 2018 a turnaround season.
"What we found when we went back and evaluated the season is that we were still at our best when we went fast and created big plays, so we have to get back to what we do," said Jenkins.
The 4A Bulldogs are always tested with offensive and defensive line depth, especially playing up against 5A schools in three of their five non-district games before opening league play at Parkview Baptist. Those 5A schools are East Feliciana, St. Amant, and Dutchtown.
