BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Construction is set to begin August 1 on Baton Rouge's first Dat Dog location. That's according to the Business Report.
The restaurant will be located in Arlington Marketplace near West Lee Drive, Burbank Drive, and Ben Hur Road. If construction moves quickly, franchise owner, David Halpern, says the restaurant should opens its doors November 1.
"We wanted to be open right after LSU students came back to school, but it wasn't feasible. And we want to make sure we're an A-plus-plus site," said Halpern in an interview with the Business Report.
New Orleans attorney, Kean Miller, and his nephew, Teva Sempel, will be running the Baton Rouge location, and say they are already scouting for additional locations along Government Street in Mid City and in the Perkins Road overpass area. They hope to have a second location identified by the time the first location opens, and a third spot picked out about six months later.
"Location is the most critical thing for restaurants. Robust economy, strong student presence, and brand awareness," said Halpern.
Halpern has about 20 years of restaurant experience, partnering in four Ruth's Chris Steakhouses on the East Coast and investing in several restaurants in New Orleans, including The Blue Crab Restaurant and Oyster Bar.
