(WAFB) - If you're planning on making a large online purchase, you might want to do it sooner rather than later.
The Louisiana Department of Revenue has announced they will begin collecting taxes from online purchases at the beginning of 2019. How much you pay will depend on your delivery zip code. A recent Supreme Court decision gave states this new power, but experts say you shouldn't notice a change on most of your purchases.
"As far as most of your purchases with your big retailers, you're already getting charged sales tax with them when you buy online, including Amazon, so your experience isn't going to change," said Robert Travis Scott, Public Affairs Research Council president.
You may see a difference if you buy from places like eBay or Etsy though. Scott says some specialized sellers don't collect taxes voluntarily like larger retailers have been doing for several years.
