He's considered to be the #1 recruit in the nation for college football's class of 2019, and LSU commit Derek Stingley, Jr. told WAFB Sunday his Tigers' signing class will wind up #1 too.
"I would say by the time it's all said and done, we're going to be the Number 1 recruiting class to come through," said Stingley on Sunday. "Right now all we have in front of us is Texas A&M and Alabama, but we'll pass them up," said Stingley referring to LSU's new #3 national ranking by 24/7 Sports after Ed Orgeron added Stingley, 4-star dual-threat quarterback Peter Parrish from Phenix City, Alabama and another defensive back from that state Cordale Flott, a 3-star prospect who flipped on his commitment to Auburn.
Stingley said he is actively trying to recruit friends and teammates from around the state and around the country for LSU's Class of 2019, much like LSU Basketball signee Ja'Vonte Smart did for Will Wade last year.
"There's a lot of people on my 7-on-7 team that could actually play at LSU. And they're like my friends and I talk to them every day. So just going around the country seeing people that could play for LSU, just building relationships is good for anyone," Stingley added.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound cornerback picked LSU over Texas and Florida this week.
