WALKER, LA (WAFB) -
The man suspected of stealing the wallet of an elderly man who had fallen down is now behind bars.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported Matthew Calvin Morris, 29, of Prairieville, is now charged with resisting an officer and as a fugitive from another jurisdiction. He is being held without bond. Morris is charged as a fugitive from another district because the wallet was stolen in Livingston Parish.
Morris was rolled out of a Gonzales home, believed to his mother's, on a gurney after a brief standoff with law enforcement Wednesday. Deputies said a stun gun had to be used on Morris. They added he was taken to the hospital for treatment but has since been booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
Investigators in Livingston Parish believe he is the man who stole an elderly man's wallet after the victim fell down inside a business in Walker.
Detectives said the elderly man fell down while making his way to the restroom on May 18. While the elderly man was still on the ground, surveillance video shows a man walk up to him. Officials said instead of helping the elderly man, the other man took his wallet.
Morris is facing a charge of purse (wallet) snatching in Livingston Parish.
