La. teller accused of stealing more than $25K from bank where she worked arrested in CA

MORGAN CITY, LA (WAFB) - Police have arrested a teller accused of stealing thousands from Louisiana bank and then fleeing to California.

The Morgan City Police Department reported Stephanie Williams, 37, of Morgan City, was named a suspect after failing to report to work on May 2 and a check of her drawer showed all of the money inside was damaged and "a large sum" of money was missing.

Detectives said they eventually learned Williams had fled to Long Beach, CA, so officers there were contacted to be on the lookout for her.

MCPD said LBPD investigators found Williams on June 12 and arrested her on outstanding warrants. She is currently awaiting extradition back to Morgan City.

Authorities said Williams faces charges of theft over $25,000 and criminal damage to property ($13,751).
