ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - After completing settlements with residents affected by the 2012 sinkhole, Texas Brine Company, llc took control of many of the properties, and now, those properties are being used for active training drills for the Assumption Parish SWAT team.
After the Paincourtville tornado, Texas Brine teamed up with Pastor Brad Collins to put many of those homes in the hands of people who lost their own homes in the storm. Texas Brine donated 109 homes to families and provided $50,000 to the Community Worship Center to offset relocation costs for the first eight homes.
The numerous homes that remained were offered to the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office, local fire departments, and Louisiana State Police.
So on Saturday, the sheriff's office conducted SWAT training, including building entry, use of percussion grenades, door breechings, and a number of other exercises. Sheriff Leland Falcon thanks Texas Brine for allowing the sheriff's office to use the building for the high-tech training.
The Pierre Part Volunteer Fire Department trained Saturday as well.
