TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WAFB) - A Natalbany man is accused of setting fire to a trailer with two people and a dog inside, according to the state fire marshal.
Terrell "RedMan" Haynes, 39, was arrested Friday and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail for two counts each of aggravated arson and aggravated assault with a firearm.
The Natalbany Fire Department Louisiana Office contacted the State Fire Marshal early Tuesday to help investigate a trailer fire in the 47,000 block of McGee Road in Natalbany.
The two people inside the trailer were able to escape from the fire. However, their pit bull died, the state fire marshal said.
Witness told authorities there had been an ongoing dispute between Haynes and a man over money owed on a car.
The owner of the trailer told investigators Haynes pulled a gun on that man and her the day before the fire. She said Haynes threatened to burn her home down with her inside.
The state fire marshal said Haynes was involved in a car chase hours before the fire with the trailer owner's son.
About 3 a.m. on Tuesday, the trailer owner's son told authorities he saw Haynes' truck outside of his mother's home.
The man said he started to smell smoke while he was trying to warn her. The trailer owner said she then discovered a fire in her living room and both were able to escape.
Investigators classified the fire as incendiary and obtained arrest warrants for Haynes.
Haynes surrendered to OSFM deputies at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on Friday.
