PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A pedestrian died early Sunday following a crash on US 61 south of LA 427 in Ascension Parish, according to the Louisiana State Police.
Troopers have not yet identified the pedestrian.
Investigators said a driver was traveling northbound on US 61 in a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. At the same time, two pedestrians ran across the northbound lanes of US 61 into the path of the vehicle.
One pedestrian was struck by the vehicle and the other pedestrian continued running and fled the scene, investigators said.
The Ascension Parish Coroner's Office said the unidentified pedestrian died at the scene.
The driver was properly restrained and was not injured in the crash.
State police said it's unknown if the pedestrian was impaired, but a toxicology sample will be taken for analysis.
The driver was given a chemical breath test and showed no signs of impairment.
