Driver dies after hitting 18-wheeler on I-10

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man was killed in a crash on I-10 in Baton Rouge early Saturday morning, according to investigators.

Louisiana State Police identified the driver as Patrick Joseph, 45, of Baton Rouge.

Troopers reported the wreck happened on I-10 West past LA 42 (Highland Road) around 3 a.m.

Sr. Tpr. Bryan Lee with LSP Troop A said the preliminary investigation shows Joseph was driving a 2002 GMC Sierra when he slammed the trailer of a big rig. He added troopers have not yet figured out why Joseph's truck ran into the semi.

Lee said Joseph was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. He added Joseph was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities reported the other driver was properly buckled and was not injured.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash, but as is the case with all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, blood samples were taken from both drivers and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
