PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in finding the vehicle and driver that ran over and killed a man Thursday night in Ascension Parish.

Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Melvin Rivere, 55, of Walker.

Troopers said the crash happened on US 61 (Airline Highway) near LA 427 (Perkins Road) in the Prairieville area around 10 p.m.

Sr. Tpr. Bryan Lee with LSP Troop A said the investigation, so far, shows Rivere was walking along Airline when a vehicle hit him near the edge of the highway. He added the vehicle did not stop.

According to Lee, Rivere was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Troopers have identified the suspected vehicle as a 2006 to 2009 Dodge Ram pickup. The vehicle is missing the passenger’s side headlight and was last seen traveling southbound on US 61 from the crash scene, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about this deadly hit and run crash is urged to call Louisiana State Police Troop A at 225-754-8500.
