BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU honored WAFB's Donna Britt Thursday by putting her photo on the large screens inside Tiger Stadium with the words "Thank You Donna Britt."
Donna announced this week that she will retire from WAFB later this month due to her ongoing battle with ALS.
Donna graduated from LSU in 1980 with a degree in education. During her time there, she was flag captain for the LSU band.
Donna recently told fellow employees of her chance encounter with LSU Head Football Coach Ed Orgeron. Donna was leaving a fundraiser a few months ago and was waiting for her husband to bring their vehicle around to pick her up. "Then I looked across from me and I saw Coach O," she recalled. "He came over to me and give me a big hug and my eyes got big and wide and I told him 'You're a star!'" she recalled. With a big smile, she then repeated Coach O's response to her, "No, sweetheart, YOU are the star."
Donna was thrilled.
And the celebration of our friend, Donna, continues across the metro area. On Friday, she appeared on two billboards. You may have spotted them on I-10 and on Hospital Road in Pointe Coupee Parish.
And the Golden Band from Tiger Land also honored Donna, posting an old newspaper clipping from when Donna directed the Flag Corps.
