DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Denham Springs' outfielder Travis Swaggerty became the first South Alabama player ever picked in the first round of the Major League Draft. He was selected with the 10th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates Monday night.
Swaggerty batted .296 this year with 13 home runs for the Jaguars. The junior All-American has also been a member of Team USA Baseball and batted .451 as a senior for the Denham Springs High School Yellowjackets.
Swaggerty lists Mandeville as his hometown and the New Orleans Saints as one of his favorite teams, but was in Secaucus, New Jersey at MLB Draft Headquarters with his family when his name was called.
